Wheel bearing noise in Saab Automotive AB
In 2009, Saab 9-3 had abnormal noise from wheel bearing on a small percentage of cars from field. This was very important due to customer satisfaction. The supplier was one of the world leader companies.
It has been claimed for 10 years that problem is due to not robust design of bearing geometry. It has been analyzed in a group, which led with one of our engineers.
The root cause of the problem was found in the supplier process after several months’ investigation. High knowledge in production methods, utilizing right tools and correct approach of problem solving played a main role which lead to solve the very old quality problem.
Water leakage in Trunk Saab 9-3
Small percentage of Saab 9-3 had water leakage in trunk in end of line water test. Many tries to solve the problem, had been failed in the past. The problem was old (8 years) and the rejected cars had to be reworked.
One of our engineers has investigated, and by taking right approach (DMAIC), the quality problem has been solved in one and half month.
No function after short time in customer production
An electrical part, which supplied by Kollmorgen is failed in customer production (Toyota Construction). The part had an electrical board with more than 100 resistors. One of them was open after short time. The number of failed parts was only 15 in five years, it means 66 PPM. It has been tried many times in the past without success.
Our engineer lead a problem solving team by utilizing efficient approach and right tool like DoE and solved the problem in four months.
